Hans Andreas Kachel was born 1 Aug 1718 in Dertingen, Germany, about 20 km west of Würzburg. He emigrated to Philadelphia 12 Sep 1750, aboard the ship Priscilla, and settled first in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, moving to Berks County about 1758. He was naturalized at Reading 30 Sep 1770. He died about 1777 (will probated 16 Jul 1777) in Cumru Township, Berks Co, Pennsylvania. Andreas was a soldier in the Wertheimer Company 1741-3. On June 26, 1740, Hans Kachel, soldier, and Ursula Vers from Wenkheim formally apologized to the Lutheran congregation at Dertingen for premarital relations, and were married there 28 Jun 1740. Ursula Anne Marie Vers (1717 - Nov1805) was the daughter of Wilhelm Vers and Anna Catherina Pfenning, daughter of Nikolas Pfenning (c.1667) and Marie Grunewalt (c.1643) of Wenkheim, Catholic. |

Simon Kachel , sometimes referred to as "Simon Samuel" was born 28 Jan 1743 in Dertingen, Germany, emigrated with his parents in 1750 to Montgomery Co, Pennsylvania. He was confirmed 14 May 1758, age 15, at New Hanover Lutheran Church. He married at the same church 31 Mar 1767 Anna Catherine Fritz, who was confirmed there 17 Apr 1756, age 14, daughter of Johannes Jurg Fritz, born 1701 in Heidelburg, Germany. Simon was Private, 4th Class, in Capt. Weidner's Company No.3, First Battalion, Berks County Militia during the Revolution. He married (2) 18 Mar 1780 Barbara Laub, daughter of Johannes Laub and widow of Peter Holder, whom she had married 26 Jan 1777. Simon's will was made 1 Aug 1810 in Cumru Township, Berks Co, Penn. |

Henry Kachel was born 9 June 1792, in Cumru Township, Berks County, PA, and baptized 9 Dec 1792 at Allegheny Lutheran Church. He was married at First Reformed Church in Reading 21 June 1814 to Catherine Fester (Pfister?), born 25 Oct 1792, of Heidelberg Township. The Census of 1820 shows Henry, Catherine, and three daughters in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County. 1830 in Brecknock Township. They moved to Liberty Township, Warren County, Indiana, in the 1830's. Their son Jeremiah, age 2, was buried in Indiana in July 1833, but Israel was born in Pennsylvania in 1834 and Henry was not listed as an early settler of Warren County in 1836. Another son was buried in Indiana in March, 1838. Henry died 15 Feb 1856, and his tombstone in VanReed Cemetery, Warren Co, spells his name Kachel, but early records in Warren County vary widely (Kochell, Cahell, Cochel, Cackle) gradually narrowing to Kochel, and pronounced KOTCH-ul. Catherine "Granny Kochel" died 26 Feb 1881, aged 88 years, 4 months, 1 day, and is buried in VanReed Cemetery. |
