The Family of Bachmann, a knighted crusader, settled near Zürich, Switzerland, by 1271, after his return from the Holy Land. Rudolf Bachmann (c.1570-c.1640) a blacksmith in the Wädenswil District, Canton Zürich, was interrogated in 1613 for his Anabaptist beliefs, then in 1640 was finally arrested for his beliefs and kept in chains in Ötenbach Prison in Zürich until he died. His wife and children unknown. There is no known evidence, but it is possible that he could have been the grandfather or great-uncle of:Johannes Jacob Bachmann , born 4 Apr 1628 in Richterswil, Canton Zürich, an Anabaptist. Heinrich Bachmann, born 13 Oct 1711 in Richterswil, died Nov 1779 Holman's Creek Shenandoah Co, VA. Departed Canton Zurich with 526 Anabaptists Sep 1738, and arrived in Philadelphia on the Jamaica Galley 7 Feb 1739. His name was thereafter written Baughman. He was in Lebanon Twp, Lancaster Co, PA in 1750, and received 257 acres of land in Shenandoah (then Frederick) Co, VA 19 Jun 1754. He married Barbara (died c.1798, Hudson's Cross Roads) who remarried about 1786 John Gluck, Sr (c1722-1814). |

Ann Baughman (c1762-c.1855) married 5 June 1785 Mark Fox (c.1761-1787) in Shenandoah Co, Virginia. In late 1786 or early 1787 they moved to Sevier County, Tennessee. He was killed and scalped by Indians June 21, 1787. One record says Ann remarried 19 Jul 1797 David Shaw. I have found no further record. Ann did marry about 1798 William Duggan (c.1770-c.1835) He received an occupancy land grant in 1810 on the East Fork of the Pigeon River in Sevier County, TN. He died in Monroe County, TN. Ann was listed in the Census of 1850, age 88, living with her daughter Ann Richie, in McMinn Co, TN. Many of her descendants carry the middle name Baufman. William Duggan was the son of Hugh Duggan, who married Margaret Wilson, emigrated in 1760, and died 1794 on the East Fork of Little Pigeon River, Sevier Co, TN. |
