Richard Hudson (1608-1659) christened 5 Nov 1608 at Tamworth, a mariner and coastal trader, farmer, and miller, he shipped aboard the Safety in 1635 and settled in Northampton Co, Virginia. He had apparently been working for Thomas and Hannah Savage in the tobacco trade between Virginia and England. He married about 1632 to a Miss Tilghman. When she died about 1634, their two children were placed in the home of James Bruce. Richard had various scrapes with the law, and then about 1638 married Mary Hayes, widow of John Hayes. Her daughter Ruth Hayes was placed with John Johnson. They settled on Hungers Creek in Accomack Co, Virginia. Mary was deceased by 1652, and Richard married Barbara Jacobs. He died 12 Sep 1659 in Accomack.

Henry Hudson (1632-1707) was born in 1632 in England. He arrived in Hungars Creek, Accomack Co, at age 17, (1649) and his will was proved 23 May 1707 in Somerset Co, Maryland. He was possibly a Quaker, since he moved from Virginia at the same time that many Quakers migrated.  Lord Baltimore decided that Maryland's Eastern Shore should be populated in the early 1660's, at the same time that the restored Stuart government in Virginia decided to eradicate nonconformists, especially the Quakers. He married about 1662 Lydia Smith, daughter of Henry and Ann Smith, They moved to Morumsco, Pocomoke Hundred, Somerset Co, Maryland, where on 7 Nov 1665, he had had "Hudson's Fortune" surveyed on the north side of Pocomoke River and east side of Mormusco Creek.. On Sept. 4, 1666 Henry registered his cattle mark, which was a Fleur-de-Leis, the same mark that his father Richard had used for his livestock, and came from the old Hudson Coat of Arms. Upon registering his cattle mark Henry spelled his last name as "Huttson" and used this spelling for many years. (See They lived in Somerset, 17th Century Marylanders by Wilmer O.Lankford.). Henry purchased several plantations and settled after 1672 on "Mentmore" on Assateague Sound east of the present town of Newark (Queponco) where he built his own wharf and sailed his own schooners to Virginia and probably to the West Indies (See Hudson Immigrants and the Geography of Early Settlement, by Betty Jo Hudson and Phillip Rhodes ©1981 pp.72-77.  See also Colonial Families of  the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Volume 10, pp.110-114, ©2000 Vernon Skinner)

There is disagreement among sources as to whether the Rachel Hudson who married Ralph Lowe was the daughter of Henry (fits the time line better) or of Henry's son Richard (according to Colonial Families) or of Henry's son John (1685-1769) according to goldenlyon.com  Rachel, daughter of Richard did marry Powell Patty.  But there is disagreement whether Patty was her second husband.  But if Richard was born in 1678, and married in 1705, it would be difficult to have a younger daughter married by 1717.  (See Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Volume 7, pp.161-163, ©2000 Henry Peden)  The time line for John is even less likely

Rachel Hudson (b.1684?) married about 1717 Ralph Lowe of Somerset Co.  Ralph (Reafe, Rase) Lowe (Low, Loe) was taxed in Manokin Hundred in 1725, and in Nanticoke Hundred 1730-1740. His will in Stepney Parish, dated 25 Feb 1750/1 was proved 17 Mar 1756. Ralph was probably a descendant of the Ralph Lowe, transported as a servant in 1651.
